Father of the martyred commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan threw the chief minister out of his house one night.The mourning family was told that the chief minister was coming and the security guards had to search their house.A sniffer dog was brought in who defecated the house with urine.The security gaurds were adamant to search every clost of the house so that the chief ministers lif is saved.

The Indian aviation industry will grow at a rate of 25 per cent in the next two years. Given this projection, there would not be a better time to enter this field. Tapping this demand, several institutes have launched courses in aviation management. These diploma courses can range from six months to two years.

Indian retail is expanding at a rapid pace and the variety of courses on retail in the market bear testimony to this fact.

The latest to jump onto the bandwagon is IP university who has tied up with NIS Academy to offer a three month certificate programme for graduates and working professionals and the Indian Retail School that has tied up with the Ministry of Defence for its Retail Management programme.


A retail management course combines theoretical training with practical experience in a range of retail formats right from apparel, food and groceries to gadgets down small stores to big malls and international chains.

Even though the nomenclature of this course does not change, different schools would offer a different mix of modules.

IP University’s weekend course will train students in retail selling skills, customer service, soft skills, basics of retail store SOPs (Standart Operational Procedures).

Birla Institute of Management and Technology, Noida offers special modules in e-tailing and non-store retailing, retail economics, retail credit, quality certification and quality benchmarking and even retail strategy, risk and loss management.

Students are also trained in analytical and research skills to formulate strategies in various industries. The Indian Retail School, on the other hand, is catering to defence personnel in retail managment and store operations.

The retail market currently valued at $300 billion a year is seeing unprecedented investments by business houses such as Reliance, Bharti, Future group etc.

Pradeep Malhotra, head, special projects and HR solutions says, “These employment assistance linked programmes are designed to create ‘retail ready’ defence people for immediate deployment in booming retail industry.” There is no dearth of opportunities for these professionals.
