Knowledge of computer applications in today’s world is a pre-requisite for a successful and satisfying career. With new soft wares being introduced in the market almost every second day, it is all the more necessary for students from all fields, specialisations and backgrounds to keep abreast with the latest that is on offer in the field of technology.

Among the myriad courses on web applications, the course offered by the computer centre of MS University, Baroda (Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda) stands apart।


The course is a certificate course in web technology and was introduced last year. It is a short-term course and is of a duration of 16 weeks.

Students need to have completed their 10+2 in English medium and have a basic understanding of computers. The course fee is nominal at Rs 7,700 and it promises a starting salary of Rs 2.4 lakh per Annam.

The course not only offers a basic understanding of HTML and other web services, but also covers soft wares that are of great value in the job market.

“This course is based on the Open Source platform and covers Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP. Unfortunately, no regular IT courses cover these topics in such combination and detail,” says Dhanesh Patel, Director, Computer Centre, Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU), Baroda.

A minimum of 80 sessions of one hour each are reserved for teaching and demonstration, and around 60 sessions of one hour each for practicals five days in a week are kept aside.

With websites increasingly being converted in PHP/MySQL, there is a need for skilled professionals who know how to work with these software's.


This short-term course aims at providing insight into the professional aspects of the development of dynamic web applications to enhance the job prospects.

“There was a need for a course to give our students an opportunity to keep up with the latest in the world of information technology and web development so that they get instant employment,” says Dhanesh.

Wherever there is a requirement for system analysts for constant up gradation of data, for instance, at websites of banks, universities and other portals, there will be a demand for people who have done this course. Students can work as web designers or PHP programmers also.

With web technology becoming an inseparable part of progress in today’s tech-savvy world, it is but natural that those who opt for this course will have instant takers in the job market.

Eligibility: 10+2 in English medium and a functional knowledge of computers.

Course Fee: Rs 7,700

Starting Salary: Rs 1.7-2.6 lakh per Annam
