Father of the martyred commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan threw the chief minister out of his house one night.The mourning family was told that the chief minister was coming and the security guards had to search their house.A sniffer dog was brought in who defecated the house with urine.The security gaurds were adamant to search every clost of the house so that the chief ministers lif is saved.

Human Rights are defined as “the basic rights and freedom every human is entitled to”. The master’s course introduced by PU aims to not only sensitise students towards these rights but also prepare Human Rights activists out of them by providing them the right knowledge, skills, attitudes and values.

The course uniquely integrates theory and practice in the field of human rights, human welfare and development. After completing the programme, a student can get absorbed in NGOs, national and international Human Rights commissions, corporate sector, media and government organizations. Says B.S. Ghuman, chief coordinator, Center for Emerging Areas in Social Sciences and Dean, Faculty of Arts, Punjab University, Chandigarh, “India is a signatory to the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. Students will find a ready market in India as well as abroad.”
